Dr. Pepper Ribs

This recipe for Dr. Pepper Ribs popped up in my YouTube feed recently and although I’ve heard about it, I’ve never actually tried it myself. Seemed like an opportune time to get it ago.

Gather the ingredients.

  • 1 Rack of Spareribs
  • 1 Stick of Butter
  • Meat Church Texas Sugar Rub
  • Cattleman’s Grill Lone Star Brisket Rub
  • Dr. Pepper
  • G. Hughes Sugar-free BBQ Sauce
  • Ninja Woodfire Grill

Let’s go to work.

  1. Season bone side ribs with Meat Church Texas Sugar Rub, then Cattleman’s Grill Lone Star Brisket Rub, allowing rub to attach before flipping and repeating.
  2. Preheat the Ninja Woodfire Grill to “Smoke” at 250 °F.
  3. Smoke the ribs until a dark red/mahogany bark is formed on the surface, about three and a half hours.
  4. Remove ribs from grill and place them meat side down onto a few pats of unsalted butter placed on some heavy duty foil. a little Dr. Pepper over the ribs, ensuring liquid doesn’t run off.
  5. Wrap the ribs tightly in the foil and cook meat side down until tender, about an hour, ensuring the meat moves freely from the bones when twisted.
  6. Combine Dr. Pepper and your choice of barbecue sauce in a hot skillet. Reduce heat and cook until reduced by two-thirds. Cool to room temperature.
  7. When the ribs are tender flip them over to sit bone side down and brush with Dr. Pepper barbecue sauce, cover, and cook for 20 minutes to set glaze.
  8. ‘Nuff said! Pull those Dr. Pepper Ribs out of the oven, let them rest for a few minutes, then enjoy!
